Reduce Task Email Spam
complete

I just went through and added myself to some tasks so that I could get comment notifications. (Which I did not know was needed, I thought I would get notifications by default!)
Instead of either doing nothing or sending only me an email that I had been assigned to the task, it sent new task notifications to ALLLL the people assigned to each task. They've already been assigned and have already received those emails, so I essentially just spammed a ton of people on a Saturday evening.
Could you consider letting us start a project and assign tasks/subtasks, then click a button to Notify Client or something so they get only one email that they have been assigned tasks and due dates?
If not, could adding ourselves to tasks/subtasks not send out an email notification to the client?

Hotfix deployed.

OK Kristen Johnson - This task "spam" was actually the result of two different notification bugs. One for columns in "approval required" and one when you updated the assigned to list.
We just deployed a hotfix that resolves both of these bugs. You should not see either of these issues going forward.

Hi Geoff! I think something else needs to be added to this bug. I have a Project with 3 columns (In Progress, Client Approval, Done) set to Client Workflow. One of the Task cards that was in the In Progress column has 5 subtasks. Four had been checked off by the client. I checked the final subtask and moved the Task card to the Done column. Instead of sending each person on the project one email saying that that specific Task card had been marked Done, it also sent an email for EVERY OTHER task that had previously been marked as Done. I just sent 30 total emails to people. Each person received FOUR separate emails. And that's not counting the emails they just got because I moved one task card into the In Progress column.
:( !!!

Kristen Johnson: Thanks for the additional info. I'm going to have someone work on this side to try and reproduce this issue in our lab environment.

Geoff Mina: You are just the most wonderfully responsive person :)

Thanks for the feedback Kristen Johnson - I'm going to move this over to Bugs as I don't think the current functionality that notifies everyone of everyone else's assignment status is logical. It should just notify the person who is being assigned - and that is only if someone other than that individual is doing the assigning of the task.

Geoff Mina: Oh gosh lol it didn't even occur to me that it might be a bug! Thank you for looking into this. You are wonderfully responsive and I so appreciate you! Now stop working on the weekend :)
